Sarafinah Bukirwa came from Uganda to the United States with a visa to expand her nonprofit work around sickle cell anemia, a disease she has. She was leaving Louisville to fly to a conference when she was detained by ICE. Now she’s at the Grayson County Detention Center without proper access to her medicine, her brother says. It’s the second incident involving ICE that U.S. Rep Morgan McGarvey is investigating this week.
While we’re looking at Eastern Kentucky, it seems so has a Spanish solar company, which is getting state tax breaks to build a solar development in Fleming County.
Meanwhile former Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis is back in the court documents. The couple who sued her so many years ago for denying them a marriage license says she is covering up assets while she owes them and their attorneys lots of money.
And Kentucky has made too many headlines for housing foster children in state offices when they can’t find other accommodations. Thanks to a federal audit, we know it’s a problem nationwide.
Speaking of lots of money, someone paid $30,000 for a mysterious recipe listed in a notebook of Col. Harland Sanders. We don’t know if it’s the famed KFC recipe or not, but it was auctioned off with many of his other belongings, like a framed letter from President Richard Nixon.

A state economic development board voted Thursday to give state tax refunds to an international renewable energy company looking to invest $307 million to build a 188-megawatt solar installation in Fleming County.

Attorneys for the couple denied a marriage license by former Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis more than a decade ago now allege she lied about her assets to avoid dishing out the roughly $570,000 she owes to them and to their attorneys.

More than 9,000 children in foster care had to temporarily stay in hotels, office buildings and other potentially unsafe settings when states couldn’t find suitable places for them, according to a new federal audit.
